Research and Analysis
Research and analysis are basic elements of Hiltrain's approach to training; we believe it is important to have a clear picture of all relevant issues before developing a training programme.
In every case we make a direct link between the focus of our research activities and the ultimate goals of your business. Our aim is to ensure you get the answers that your company needs in order to achieve success.
The scope of the research and analysis will vary according to the nature and complexity of the project, but we always seek to answer the following questions:
What does the training need to achieve in terms of measurable business outputs?
What do you want people to be able to do, or do better, as a result?
What change in people's attitude and behaviour are you looking for?
What are the factors that currently inhibit change and those that might enable it?

Strategic Competency Modelling
Aims and Objectives Workshop
Hiltrain uses the facilitated Aims and Objectives Workshop to gain consensus, through carefully staged activities, on what the proposed training needs to achieve for the business.
Participants in the workshop should be all those with a stake in the success of the training, so a necessary first step is the identification of this stakeholder group - not always easy!
Training Needs Analysis
A Hiltrain TNA achieves three goals: to separate out training needs from other inhibitors of success, to clarify training objectives, and to provide a sound basis for subsequent evaluation of the training's effectiveness.
The Hiltrain team has extensive experience of conducting both large and small scale needs analysis.
Strategic Competency Modelling
Hiltrain's strategic competency modelling is a means of identifying and mapping the outputs that a business must produce in order to achieve success as defined by its mission and vision.
Hiltrain analysts produce a visual representation of the company's activities, broken down logically and culminating in a set of detailed competencies clearly linked to business outputs.
As a result, everyone in the organisation can see what they need to do in order to work effectively, why their role is important and how their achievements are directly linked to the organisation's success.
Imagine the benefits to your organisation if the potential of each person were realised and focused on achieving your business objectives!
In addition to defining training needs, Hiltrain's clients have used the competency model as a basis for:
- strategic planning
business process improvement
job role profiling
training curriculum design
performance management
Evaluation
At Hiltrain we recognise the importance of evaluating the impact and effectiveness of any training intervention.
We don't see evaluation as simply an exercise in collecting as much information as possible regardless of its relevance. We believe that effective evaluation is about gathering useful, quality data that will enable an accurate judgment to be made - ultimately judging the efficacy of the training in terms of its impact on business outputs. Having identified at the project's outset the changes in business performance that we expect, we ensure that any evaluation we carry out is focused and specific.
Hiltrain's reputation for independence and objectivity, and for the validity of our recommendations, means that our clients trust us to deliver facts that they can work with.
